1. The Grading Criteria
ETS graders evaluate your essay on four specific dimensions. You don't need perfect grammar to get a 6.0, but you do need perfect logic.
1. Complexity of Thought
Do you address the nuance? A 6.0 essay acknowledges counter-arguments and explores "grey areas" rather than just stating a simple "Yes".
2. Organization
Does the essay flow logically? Use transition words (However, Therefore, Furthermore) to guide the reader.
3. Evidence & Support
Are your examples persuasive? Hypothetical examples are allowed, but specific real-world examples (History, Science) are stronger.
4. Mechanics
Grammar and vocabulary. You can make minor errors, but they shouldn't interfere with meaning. Varied sentence structure boosts your score.
