The Digital SAT: Structure, Bluebook & Desmos
The paper SAT is history. The Digital SAT is adaptive, shorter (2 hours 14 minutes), and allows a built-in Desmos graphing calculator on every single math question.
The Digital SAT Format
Two main sections, each split into two equal timed modules.
| Section | Time Allotted | Questions | Key Structure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading & Writing | 64 Minutes (2 Modules of 32m) | 54 Questions (27 per module) | Short passages (25–150 words). 1 question per passage. |
| Math | 70 Minutes (2 Modules of 35m) | 44 Questions (22 per module) | Built-in Desmos graphing calculator allowed on ALL questions. |
| Total Exam | 2h 14m (+10m break) | 98 Questions | Administered on personal laptops/tablets via the College Board "Bluebook" app. |
Module-Adaptive Logic & Routing
The Digital SAT adapts between modules to determine your score potential.
Module 1: Baseline
A broad mix of Easy, Medium, and Hard questions assessing your foundational accuracy.
The Routing Pivot
High Accuracy: Routes to Hard Module 2.
Lower Accuracy: Routes to Easy Module 2.
The Score Ceiling
You MUST unlock the Hard Module 2 to score 600+ on a section (and 1450+ composite).
Even if you score 100% correct in the Easy Module 2, your section score is mathematically capped below the 600 range. Maximizing early question accuracy is crucial.
Inside the "Bluebook" App
Master the built-in interface tools to minimize test-day friction.
Desmos Integration
Full-featured graphing calculator available on every math question. Allows slider variables, regression, and visual root finding.
Highlighter & Notes
Annotate passage sentences directly to keep track of main claims and contrast indicators on Reading questions.
Mark for Review
Flag tough questions and jump back instantly via the visual grid before your 32 or 35-minute module timer expires.
