New Official Feature

GMAT Superscore Guide

GMAC has introduced the GMAT Superscore. Learn how it works, how it boosts your score, and what it means for your business school applications.

Official Rollout Notice

Announced in June 2026, the official GMAT Superscore feature will go live on mba.com in early-to-mid August 2026. It will apply retroactively to all your valid GMAT Focus Edition attempts.

How Does the GMAT Superscore Work?

The GMAT Superscore combines your highest section scores from all valid attempts of the current GMAT exam (GMAT Focus Edition). Instead of schools only looking at individual test sittings, your Superscore presents the best of Quantitative, Verbal, and Data Insights combined.

Note: GMAT total scores are calculated based on item-response theory algorithms using the section scores. In the example above, combining the best sections leads to a significantly higher total.

Essential Rules & Eligibility

Focus attempts only

Only valid exam attempts of the GMAT Focus Edition are eligible. The classic GMAT (10th Edition) scores are completely excluded.

5-Year Expiration

Only valid, non-expired scores can be included. Because GMAT Focus scores last 5 years, expirations won't apply until 2028.

No Opt-Out

If a valid Superscore exists in your account, it will automatically be sent to schools on any official score report you submit.

Tie-Breaker Rule

If you score the exact same highest mark on a section in two attempts, the system uses the score from the most recent attempt.

How GMAT Superscores are Reported

The implementation of the GMAT Superscore does not replace your single-sitting results. When sending scores to business schools:

  • You will select a specific, single sitting to report to your target program.
  • The report sent to the business school will list that selected single sitting AND your calculated GMAT Superscore.
  • The individual attempts used to calculate the Superscore are also shown to maintain transparent data integrity.
Important Strategy: Do not attempt to "game" the exam by neglecting sections. Business schools still see your complete sitting records, and a heavily skewed individual sitting may raise red flags.

Admissions Policy & School Acceptance

Historically, business schools have been receptive to superscores for the GRE and SAT. The introduction of GMAT Superscore standardizes this for GMAT test-takers.

Holistic Evaluation

Many top MBA programs evaluate candidates holistically. Highlighting your top potential in each specific test section helps schools appreciate your quantitative rigor and verbal reasoning.

Check Specific School Sites

Some programs may still require or focus primary attention on your single-sitting maximum score. It is always wise to review target school admission FAQs.
